It’s time to introduce you to the muscle behind the mission…
You know the part in movies or TV shows that portray ones life flashing before their eyes? I always thought that was a thing that happened on the big screen. I didn’t know it could happen in real life until it happened to me. I was sitting at my desk in mid October 2019 searching for a photo to add to my new family magazine I was working on. I unexpectedly discovered the biggest family secret that would turn my life upside down and inside out. I left the present moment as memories of 32 years of life floated in around in my head in the shapes of puzzle pieces. I sat paralyzed as I watched them all click together leaving one piece out and slowly from the depths of shadows in my memory, the missing piece made its way to the light and clicked itself into the empty space. My life, finally, made sense.
This discovery catapulted me into my search and rescue era. For the first time I realized, no one else was going come save me, not because they didn’t want to, many tried, but no one else could heal my wounds for me, even if they were the ones who cut me. My deep dive rescue mission was met with divine timing as it seemed the only way for God to stop me from distracting myself with my favorite coping mechanism of work, was to shut the entire thing down in the year I won’t mention. And so it was. Me, myself and I with all of my stuff and no way to distract myself out of it.
The birthing pains I endured during this journey is what lead me to give birth to the vision and mission of the Broken + Beloved Project. The mission is to facilitate a safe space for rebellious women who desire to live freely in their skin. Over and over women who booked in their photo shoots with me would have similar stories, backgrounds and during their session we would crack them open only to then send them on their way with a few crumbs of resources to help them continue to grow their newfound confidence. I wanted to nurture and connect my clients together and help support them beyond the shoot in an intimate and safe community.
This concept was new, I had scientific evidence to back it up as well as my very own clients to testify that boudoir portrait experiences are creatively healing for them. In order for me to push forward with the vision, I needed to call in the help of our community to provide the financial support for me to be able to pull it off, and boy did they deliver! In two months we raised over $16,000.00 of funding for the project and 22 women were enrolled!
